Municipal Climate Declarations for Copenhagen

The Centre for Civic Governance is pleased to provide this list of municipalites who've passed resolutions declaring their support for strong commitments to climate actions at Copenhagen this December.  Please check back frequently to see who's been added and do let us know if your municipality is preparing a similar resolution.

 

Municipal Climate Change Declarations for Copenhagen


In December, world leaders are meeting in Copenhagen for United Nations climate change negotiations. Mayors and councils from around the world are adding their weight to the deliberations.

A number of Councils across Canada have added their voices to the call for a strong agreement in Copenhagen. The Centre for Civic Governance is pleased to provide a list of Canadian municipalities who've passed resolutions. Please check back frequently to see who's been added and do let us know if your municipality is preparing a similar resolution.

 

 

Canadian municipalities and districts that have passed resolutions:


London, Ontario passed a resolution on November 10th.


Dawson Creek, BC passed a resolution on November 16th


Whistler, BC passed a motion on November 17th and sent a letter to the Prime Minister.


City of North Vancouver, BC passed a resolution on Monday, November 23rd.


Whitehorse, Yukon passed a resolution November 23rd.


Vancouver City Council's proclamation of Climate Action Day

 

Vancouver City Council passed a resolution December 1st.

 

Fort St John, BC passed a resolution December 4th.

 

City of Edmonton passed a resolution (item 6.6) November 24th.

 

City of Toronto's Mayor David Miller's letter to the Prime Minister.

 

City of Kelowna passed a proclamation November 18th.

 

Sault Ste Marie, Ontario resolution supporting London, Ontario's resolution.

 

Prince George, passed a resolution November 30th.

 

Metro Van (Greater Vancouver Regional District) resolution passed November 27th.

 

Nelson, BC passed a resolution December 2nd.

 

Burnaby, BC passed a resolution December 7th.

 

Saanich, BC passed a resolution December 7th.

 

District of North Vancouver, BC passed a proclamation and letter to the Prime Minister

 

The Federation of Canadian Municipalities passed an emergency resolution  November 22nd.

 

Victoria, BC passed a proclamation December 10th.

 

Saskatoon, Sask passed a resolution December 14th.

 

Bowen  Island Municipality, BC passed a resolution and urged community to sign the climate petition December 15th.

Ajax, Ontario is preparing a resolution for introduction in early December.

The Stockholm Appeal
On November 3oth, the Mayors of the largest cities in Europe and the United States released the Stockholm Appeal on Climate Change. See www.eurocities2009.eu/.  The Stockholm Appeal draws on three key documents that can be useful references for putting together your own city’s motion:
