Ben West of the Wilderness Committee warns that Metro Vancouver's plans to build an incinerator to manage solid wastes could put an additional one million tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere per year. The Metro board will vote on a draft of the solid waste management plan for the region and the decision to adopt a waste diversion target of 70% by 2015.
