The Third Annual Composite Learning Index, released by the Canadian Council of Learning in May 2008, is Canada's only nationwide meaure of lifelong education and the only such survey in the world.

Ground-Breaking Study Follows Welfare Recipients for 2 Years

The CCPA and the Raise the Rates Coalition released a new study on the experiences of long-term welfare recipients in BC. The study followed 62 people in Vancouver, Victoria and Kelowna for two years and focused on people officially categorized as ‘employable’. Among the study’s important findings, researchers were able to establish an important link between welfare rules and homelessness.

2007 Child Poverty Report Card

This report from First Call: BC Child and Youth Advocacy Coalition contains ten fact sheets which analyze various aspects of child poverty in BC, including depth of poverty by family type, families with children on welfare, and child poverty and importance of government help. Read the report here.

Why Most University Students Are Women

Statistics Canada shows that more women than men attend university. In 2003, 26% of 19-year-old-men had attended university, compared to 39% of 19-year-old women. The reason is related to academic performance, lower educational expectations being placed upon boys by parents, and time spent on homework.
